Why aren’t there laws protecting you and your family against radon? There are, but no one, except in a few states where concerned citizens have convinced their legislators to pass radon laws, has enforced them. Chief among these laws is the Radon Abatement Act, passed by Congress in 1988. At that time, Congress made the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) responsible for implementing the Act. EPA has made little effort to provide more than minimal awareness campaigns and tell voluntary organizations and states to do EPA’s job.
